Star burst Inside the western passage at Knowth Star burst

In July of 2000, Mythical Ireland gained access to the western passage at Knowth, and was allowed to take pictures exclusively for use on this website. Those photographs are presented here in another internet exclusive. I wish to express kind thanks to Professor George Eogan, director of excavations at Knowth for 40 years, for his kind permission and personal tour of the western passage.

Amazing circular artwork on orthostat 44in the western passage at Knowth.

The western chamber at Knowth. The artwork on the rear stone, orthostat 42, repeats that which is found on the stone at the entrance of the passage.

A spiral - a common symbol on the megalithic stones of Ireland - in Knowth's western passage.

"Serpentiform" style carvings on a passage orthostat at Knowth west.

The spectacularly-adorned orthostat 49, which is located just at the point where the passage at Knowth bends slightly to the south. Close by is the great stone basin which was found in the passage.

Orthostat 40, located just outside the western chamber on the left side.

The familiar spirals on an orthostat near the entrance to the western passage.

See also pictures from inside the southern chamber at nearby Dowth, where the sun's light penetrates every year on Winter Solstice.
