Newgrange site K

Both of these sites were excavated during Professor Michael O'Kelly's excavations at Newgrange. In the above photograph the stones in the foreground are the remains of the kerb of site K, with the passage stones further back. Mound L can be seen between these stones and the Newgrange mound in the background.

This is a photograph of the remains of the passage at site K, which is aligned exactly north-south. Some of the stones are engraved.

According to Prof. O'Kelly, the mounds of these two sites, along with that of site Z on the east side of Newgrange, were built of layers of turves.
