The daytime sky - a photographic snapshot

The reddest sky ever!

THE REDDEST SKY

Probably among one of the best five photographs I have ever taken, this shot of a red evening sky over Drogheda takes little introduction. There was no magic involved, though - nature presented this scene to me, and I just grabbed my camera and took four pictures. This was the best of the four. No image editing was carried out - this is a simple scan from a 7x5" colour print. Sometimes, it's about being in the right place at the right time, with a camera!

Another evening sky
Evening clouds
Another evening sky, with the small cumulus clouds in the foreground against the dark cumulonimbus behind. The same sky as on left, but with a wider lens and taken a few minutes later. The sun was setting.
Summer sunset sky
High altitude cloud with low
A July sunset sky over Ireland.

High and low altitude cloud combine in this image.

Sunbeams
Colours
Sunbeams reach out from behind a cumulonimbus. Richard liked the colours in this one!
Colour contrast
Pale reds
A great contrast of colours - the dark clouds and the bright greenery, taken at Redmountain, 1999. The bright reds of summer yield to softer tones in the winter. This sunset sky was taken in November.
