Any body up in Loughcrew today?
Was going to make the trip but thought the weather would be bad.
Think looking at the morning that there would have been a good chance of the sunlight making it in this morning.

Bawn,

Won't be able to make it myself, but if you're up there and get any photos, I'd be glad to post a couple of them on Mythical Ireland!

Derek,

There is an annual "Winter Solstice Blitz" which takes in a whole heap of sites. It's kind of an ad-hoc thing really, with no official agenda other than to visit as many sites as possible in one day.

There's no chief organiser either, but I can let you know the details closer to the event.

Last year started at Baltray standing stones, then to Newgrange, Slane (Conyngham Arms for breakfast), Telltown, Loughcrew, Hill of Tara, and then Dowth for the Winter Solstice sunset which shines into the southern passage around 3.30pm or so.

I spent Summer Solstice at Loughcrew the summer before last. Spectacular. Unlike the Hill of Tara which was jam-packed with people, only a handful of people were at Loughcrew, which made it especially nice.

Hi, just joined the forum,
I have visited Sliabh na Caillighe counless times over the years and have had the chamber of carin T all to my self on a sunny equinox many years ago, an experience i will nevre forget! I used to get the key to carin T from a house at the bottom of the hill but dont know if this situation has changed over the years. Is the key still to be found in the same place? if not does anyone know how to get it?
hope someone can help :?:
kind regards
Stephen

Stephen,

Welcome to the forum. The key is still available from the Naper family for a deposit. However, the equinox situation has changed. Perhaps that is due in some way to people like Richard and I writing books about it, but on the autumn equinox last September we counted 105 people on Carnbane East. How things change.

Hi Anthony,
thanks for the info! I realized at the time that my solitary morning at cairn t was unlikly to be repeated. I have a few pics of the sun inside the chamber but unfortunatly the negatives have vanished.hopefully I will get them digitized shortly. I was planning visiting cairn u tomorrow for the cross quarter day but dont think my littke car would make it in the snow. I'm currently seeing what I can find in the way of conections between mt.loughanleigh near bailieborough and the loughcrew sites.
I'v just read your book, fantastic!

Have to be honest, Loughcrew would be great in the snow but I wouldn't risk it!!

Thanks about the book. Glad you like it. It's selling well and people seem to be enjoying it.

If you get those photos digitized, let me know. I'd love to feature one on the website somewhere.
