Progressive Democrats Meath by-election candidate Sirena Campbell
says the Progressive Democrats are to give their full support at
all levels to the proposed M3 motorway.
Ms. Campbell says the party has studied the issue at length
following a request from her, and a number of alternatives to the
proposed route were examined. ?I was concerned that the best
possible route would be selected, and I asked the Parliamentary
Party to consider the NRA proposal in conjunction with a number of
other alternatives.‚
?The Party has now decided to give its full backing to proposed
route for a number of reasons. Most importantly, the vast majority
of people in Meath have declared themselves satisfied with this
route and are anxious to see construction work begin as soon as
possible.‚
?Commuters are currently facing terrible gridlock on a daily basis,
with lengthy tailbacks on the journey to and from work, and
immediate action must be taken to alleviate this. While the
Progressive Democrats studied a number of alternative proposals,
their adoption would have meant serious delays while detailed cost
and site analysis were carried out. The people of Meath have
already waited long enough for this motorway to built.‚
In addition, Ms. Campbell says that ?•50 million of taxpayers money
has been spent on the proposed route in carrying out Environmental
Impact Studies (EIS) and other analysis, and that this should not
be wasted.‚
On Saturday the Progressive Democrats signed the petition organised
by the Meath Citizens for the M3 and pledged their full support.
