A Drogheda-born brass composer, Richard Rock, has composed a piece of music called "Island of the Setting Sun" for brass band. The piece has already been premiered in Britain, and Richard is hoping the music will have its first performance in Ireland some time during 2009.

Richard has been kind enough to ask me to assist him with the composition of some composer's notes, explaining the significance of the title, which I have provided him with. As well as being a brass composer, Richard is a Tenor Horn player with the world famous Yorkshire Building Society (YBS) Brass Band.
