mythical,
do you know what relation, if any, the roads which create the High Man might have with ley lines or other ancient sighting/road building techniques?

BelHound,
This is an area we'd love to explore more. There is talk of major energy lines and ley lines in the whole Boyne Valley area, including a huge ley which is supposed to stretch from Newgrange through Stonehenge all the way to Giza. Unfortunately, we are not qualified in this field and would love some help.
As for their engineering/road building/ancient sighting skills, I'd imagine they would have employed their vast knowledge of the sky to help them out in that regard. A specific sunset, or more likely setting star, provides a very accurate way of determining direction - if you know your astronomy that is.

Anthony and BelHound,
This afternoon I went dowsing along some of the roads of the High Man. I dowsed for energy lines, as I am not too familiar with ley lines.
Starting in Collon I went west, then to Smarmore, south through the middle of the chest to Collon again. Then along the Hill of Rath road to Drogheda.
I found that these energy lines ran parallel to the roads. On one cross road the energy lines felt like a spiral. But it might be good if somone else would verify my findings.
The one road I checked that was not on the figure of the High Man did not register any energy line.
This area is rich in ancient remains, holy wells and legends.
I got lots of curious looks fom passing motorists and farmers who thought I was lost.
But the reward was a beautiful moon brushing against the pink sunset clouds.

Mythi
you've got me wondering now.....where else there might have been images imprinted on the landscape in other places in the british isles...
it's too bad those damn romans destroyed Britain with their roads, otherwise we'd likely be able to find out.
i'm curious as to whether the "head of Bran" on London hill could have been a landscape carving -- that the (romanized) Arthur dug up.
it was said the head was buried in the hill facing what is now france as an enchantment to protect the island from invasions.
i wonder if that was the purpose of the High Man.

Hello. I live in Japan and I have strange hoby which is walking. I have a theory about a days journey being four hours in the morning a small rest for food and water and then four hours in the afternoon. This would mean that a days journey is eight hours of steady walking. That would place the centers of civilization a days journey from each other. Since most centers where originaly resting places. I have been testing this theory by walking. From where I live in Nara Japan I have walked North, South and west for one day about eight hours since I do not stop to eat. Does this theory also apply in Ireland? I think that it is a universal principle that applies to all civilizations. Here it is exactly eight hours in all directions.
