Star Wars the movies are, as you may know, heavily influenced by world mythology. Apparently, the part where Luke Skywalker gets his arm chopped off by Darth Vader and replaced with a robotic one is inspired by the story of the Second Battle of Moyture, and specifically where the king, Nuadu, has his hand chopped off and famously replaced by the healer, Diancecht, with a silver one.

Has George Lucas actually said this was so? Has he said it in an interview or in a book somewhere??

mythi
that is interesting -- i haven't been as much into star wars lately like i used to be. however, i wouldn't put it past Lucas...my guess would be to check out Joseph Campbell's work and see if and where he mentions Nuada...

Post subject: influence of irish myth on movies
PostPosted: Tue Feb 14, 2006 12:08 pm
hello there, my name is hannah and i am here seeking help. i my self am writing a dissertation on the influence of irish myth on irish animation, within this i am investigating the influence irish myth has had on films world wide, everyone here has made very good points on all the films being dissgust. but if you know of anyother films that have been influenced please e-mail me. i do agree with many on the lord of the rings but i also feel that tolkin took inspiration from all myths in europe not just one specifacly. it is very evident that he did use walsh and irish myths alot within his books. why not they are beautiful and full of inspiration. anyway if anyone has information that i might be able to use, please send it to me and it will be realy appreciated. thank you for everyones time, hope to talk soon. hannah
