Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004/FSX screen shots

Microsoft Flight Simulator is NOT a game. Not, that is, if you consider a realistic simulation of real-world flight to be a game!! One thing that FS can definitely claim to be is addictive!! There are lots and lots of add-ons available, both freeware and payware, (visit www.avsim.net to see some of these) and to further enhance your real-world experience, why not fly on-line on the Vatsim network? This is relatively straightforward. You will need to register, to read the conditions and regulations, and download some free software, but once you can fly offline you'll find the online experience simply amazing! I regularly fly between Shannon and Dublin or Cork and Dublin with real life ATC controllers (see Vateir video). It's as close to real flying as us virtual pilots will get! Also, if you want more realistic Irish Airports, you cannot fly without adding the IFSD scenery.

Cessna landing at Faro, Portugal: You may have heard it said that anyone can land a Cessna, but there's a lot more to it than meets the eye. Can you spot my mistakes on this final approach? FS2004

Unless otherwise stated, all videos were made in Flight Simulator 10 (FSX) using FRAPS to capture the video and TrackIr for looking around the cockpit. Note: These videos were made when I was learning to fly. All the videos on my YouTube page are better!!

Flight Simulator files

PMDG 737 - SIDs and STARs for Shannon (EINN). These are the latest procedures for Shannon and work with AIRAC 0710. The file was created by Terry Yingling and the SIDs were written by Aidan Frost. I added the STARs (from the Irish AIP) and the necessary waypoints. Click here to download.

PMDG 737 weather radar merge
The PMDG 737 with working weather radar!

Weather radar on the PMDG 737 - yes, it can be done! You just have to purchase the RealityXP Flight Line Wx500 weather radar and then the merge requires some lines of code to be added to your PMDG 737 panel config files for each variant. This is a wonderful add-on for what is already an extremely realistic Flight Simulator product. One of the few systems which is not modelled on the PMDG 737 for FS2004 is now achievable! See what it looks like here! Includes instructions on what to do to get it merged with the ND panel on the 737NG.
