This is a collection of photos of aircraft cruising over Ireland on the Upper Air Route UL70, which is a major air traffic route taking traffic out of Europe and across the North Atlantic tracks. It connects BAGSO over the Irish Sea with DEVOL out in the Atlantic.
A Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) Boeing 777-300/ER. She appeared to be climbing at the time. This was probably a MAN-JFK flight.
Probably the most commonplace aircraft on the UL70 is the Lufthansa Airbus A340. This is an A340-300.
A Virgin Atlantic 747 westbound on an April Sunday morning. Note the red engines. It was a bit cloudy when this photo was taken.
A United Airlines Boeing 777-200/ER heading west towards DEVOL.
This is definitely a Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) aircraft. My guess is that it's a 777-200/ER. Compare it with the 777-300/ER above.
A Polish Airlines (LOT) 767.
A KLM (Royal Dutch Airlines) 767.
A Lufthansa Airbus A330.
I think this is a KLM 767.
An unidentified 767, probably owned by KLM. It was almost directly overhead so therefore impossible to make out tail fin colours and body decals.
An El-Al 747, climbing to cruise on the UL70.
Another KLM jumbo jet westbound.
An MD-11. My thanks to Dave from the IFSD forums who correctly identified this as a UPS MD-11. Update!! This looks more likely to be a World Airways MD-11. Thanks to Simon Cantwell for pointing that one out.
A 767 which appears to be all white. Any ideas of the airline? Check this closer photo to see if it helps.
A military plane heading west in the middle of the day.
A Martinair Cargo MD-11.
A US Airways Boeing 767, Excuse the poor quality.
This is a 737. Note the wheels tucked into the underbelly. John Massey from IFSD says this is almost certainly BMIBaby.
This is also a 737, possibly belonging to FlyGlobeSpan. (Sorry for the poor quality).
If you can help me better identify any of the above aircraft, why not drop me a line at mythicalireland AT eircom DOT net ? Click here to see more plane pictures
