Waxing Gibbous Moon
Not just a famous and accomplished artist, Richard Moore is also an excellent photographer, and just recently acquired his very first telescope, a Soligor 6-inch Newtonian reflector. This shot, of the waxing gibbous moon taken at the time of Winter Solstice 2007, was his first effort at creating an astronomical image. And what a fantastic result it is. Click on the image to see a larger version. The detail in some of the craters is excellent.
