Happy New Year: To celebrate the new year, I went to Dowth to capture the last sunset of 2013. It turned out to be a most beautiful sunset. Added: January 1st, 2014.

Winter Solstice 2013: The winter solstice sunrise at Newgrange on December 21st 2013 was one of the most spectacular and enjoyable solstice sunrises in living memory. Added: December 2013.

My new book: I am pleased to announce that my next book, a novella titled 'Land of the Ever-Living Ones' will shortly be published. It is a moving dialogue between a wise old man and a young boy, set in ancient Ireland, that reaches into spiritual and cosmic realms. A magical tale for adults and children alike. Added: October 2nd, 2013.

Audio files added: The audio files section has been updated with the addition of two Soundcloud files, Millmount's ancient origins (a reading from Island of the Setting Sun) and the story of the mysterious floating ship of Clonmacnoise. Added: September 24th 2013.

The Mythology of Venus: A new book featuring an international collaboration of authors has been published. 'The Mythology of Venus' features a foreword by Morgan Llywelyn and contributions from a number of authors, including Anthony Murphy of Mythical Ireland. Added: August 2nd 2013.

Brigid's Way Celtic pilgrimage and alignment: A new page and video about the discovery of the Brigid alignment which later led to the foundation of a new Celtic pilgrimage joining Faughart in Louth to Kildare following a line of ancient sites including The Hill of Tara and the Hill of Slane. Added: July 31st 2013.

Newgrange alignment: A video showing a fascinating and precise alignment of sites along the winter solstice axis of Newgrange, explored in Google Earth. Added: July 31st 2013.

New Boyne Valley map: With all of the latest discoveries in the Bend of the Boyne by archaeologists who have revealed previously unknown monuments and landscape features, I've created a new interactive Boyne Valley Ancient Sites map to show you all of the known monuments in the area. Added: January 2nd, 2013.

Newgrange-Pyramids link: The great passage-tomb of Newgrange, in the Boyne Valley in Ireland, is located 4,007 kilometres from the Giza Pyramids in Egypt. But quite extraordinarily, the angular distance between the two is exactly 36 degrees, or one tenth of the earth's circumference. Added: December 30th, 2012.

Dowth causeway: Exciting new discoveries by archaeologists in the Boyne Valley have surfaced in LiDAR imagery and other techniques. They include a possible sacred routeway linking Dowth and a nearby henge and destroyed stone circle. Added: December 18th, 2012.

Audio Files: I've created a new section containing audio files of Irish poetry. So far, there are selected poems by George William Russell, John Boyle O'Reilly and Francis Ledwidge. Added: November 12th, 2012.

New novel about Newgrange: Author Ellen Evert Hopman has just published a new novel, 'Priestess of the Fire Temple - a Druid's Tale'. Added: July 19th, 2012.

Mythical Ireland Blog: I have added a new blog section to the website to allow for easy updating with news, photos, videos about matters related to ancient Ireland and Irish myth and astronomy and the many topics covered in this website. Added: July 18th, 2012.

Perpetual Celtic Calendar: A beautiful new creation by Cooley author and spirit guide Dolores Whelan in collaboration with artist Cynthia Matyi. Added: January 11th, 2012.

From the Archives: A new section on Mythical Ireland featuring photographs, drawings, maps, articles and other memorabilia collected during a decade of research for Island of the Setting Sun. Added: January 9th 2012.

Eclipse video: Anthony visits Baltray standing stones to witness a rare total lunar eclipse rising in the Winter Solstice sunrise position but the event is obscured by cloud. Added: June 18th 2011.

Druids at Newgrange: I have added a new 'Photo of the Month' for December 2010. Two bean draoi, or female druids, celebrated the Winter Solstice sunrise at Newgrange. Added: December 22nd 2010.

Eogan-Brennan meeting: Because I've added new material to the home page, I've finally moved the George Eogan - Martin Brennan meeting article to its own page in the Boyne Valley Revision section. Moved: December 19th 2010.

Boyne Valley Revision: Reports, pictures and video from the historic conference at the Newgrange Lodge which saw the return of pioneer author Martin Brennan to Ireland after an absence of 27 years. Added: December 21st 2009.

No 2012 doomsday: Author Martin Brennan told the Boyne Valley Revision conference there will be no armageddon on December 21st 2012. Added: December 21st, 2009.

The uncursing of Tara: Artist Richard Moore has suggested a novel idea - that the Government of Ireland sit temporarily on the Hill of Tara and enact some laws to show that Ireland is being governed from its true and ancient heart. Added: September 2009.

Documentary footage: Our video section now has a clip from the wonderful documentary 'As Above So Below', made by film-maker Roel Oostra. The documentary features Anthony Murphy from Mythical Ireland talking about ancient Irish astronomy. Beautifully made. Added: September 6th 2009.

Sunset over Tara: Our new Photo of the Month for September is submitted by Dave Fleming. It shows a beautiful sunset scene over the Stone of Destiny, the Lia Fáil, on the Hill of Tara. Added: September 6th 2009.

Mysterious new monuments: A group of monuments under construction was captured in these amazing photographs by Mythical Ireland's Anthony Murphy. These new monuments in County Meath are a mystery, perhaps part of some future visitor attraction. Added: July 27th 2009.

Dowth - the artist and the legend: a new atmospheric video captures some of the atmosphere and the mythology of Dowth, one of the three major monuments of the Boyne Valley. Added: July 9th 2009.

Secrets of the Stones: A major new two-part television series being shown on RTE 1 looks at some of our iconic ancient sites and tries to answer some of the key questions surrounding them. Added: April 7th 2009.

Forum Upgraded: Due to continuous spam registrations (between 20 and 40 every day), I've upgraded the forum to a much more secure PHPBB version 3. The theme style of the forum has changed, but all the content is still there, so hopefully more genuine users will register and the forum will be a much busier place. Updated: January 22nd, 2009.

Irish and Celtic Music: A brand new section at Mythical Ireland, created on the day of Winter Solstice when all sorts of artistic people get great inspiration. This section is devoted to those whose music is inspired by all things Irish and Celtic, including monuments, landscapes and myths. Added: December 21st, 2008.

Winter Solstice sunrise 2008: While 400 people went to Newgrange for Winter Solstice and were disappointed due to cloud, a small gathering of twenty people enjoyed the solstice dawn at Baltray. Added: December 21st, 2008.

Ireland's Stonehenge imagery study: A tenative and non-scientific study of some imagery and data relating to Ireland's Stonehenge. Here some archaeological imagery and Wright's 1746 drawing are overlaid onto the Carnbeg landscape as it exists today. Added: December 9th, 2008.

Millmount cannon, book launch: Cannons were fired from Millmount to mark the 200th anniversary of the construction of the martello tower there. This event coincided with the launch of Brendan Matthews' book "Tower of Strength". Added: December 13th, 2008.

Ireland's Stonehenge update: New information has come to light about the fate of Ireland's Stonehenge, a huge circular enclosure consisting of four concentric circles of stones which apparently vanished from the face of the earth. Some new information can be found on the Ireland's Stonehenge page. Updated: December 4th, 2008.

Triple conjunction: A rare conjunction of Venus, Jupiter and the Moon photographed in the winter evening sky. Added: November 30th, 2008.

Mythical Ireland airplane: A fictional aircraft livery, on the ATR 72-500, designed by Anthony Murphy featuring the Mythical Ireland logo and promotion. Added: November 2008.

Proleek summer alignment: The newly-discovered Proleek Dolmen alignment to summer solstice is featured on the home page, and also a more detailed page in the Proleek section, which has been updated with new photos. The home page featuring the announcement has been moved to the old home pages section. Added: July 15th, 2008.

Baltray star trails: The spectacular image of star trails over the Baltray standing stones which was featured on the front cover of Astronomy & Space magazine was featured on our home page during June and early July. This page has now been moved to the Baltray section. Moved: July 15th, 2008.

Millmount: A martello tower sitting on an ancient mound in Drogheda, the gateway to the Boyne Valley. Said to be the burial place of Amergin, Millmount now has its own section here at Mythical Ireland. See also the new Millmount summer solstice sunset video there and on the videos page. Claire Fitch: The hauntingly beautiful sounds of Claire Fitch, Ambiencellist, which accompany the above Millmount video, are brought to you from Claire's sea-side studio near the Boyne Valley. International Space Station: Watch the ISS pass very close to Saturn, almost in front of it, in this video clip (Windows Movie File, 5.1MB), shot from Drogheda. Added: May 29th, 2008.

Loughcrew aerial photos: Mythical Ireland went skyward to bring you these dramatic aerial photos of the Loughcrew cairns. There are over 30 cairns on the peaks of the hills of Sliabh na Calliagh. Added: March 30th, 2008.

Newgrange under stars: Our new 'Photo of the Month' is a dramatic picture of Newgrange under a night sky. Added: April 1st, 2008.

Cairn U update: The page about Cairn U at Carnbane East, Loughcrew, has been updated with new images of the artwork on some of its stones. I've left the old page there so you can see the difference. Added: March 27th, 2008.

Spring Equinox 2008: The illumination of the rear chamber stone at Cairn T was particularly spectacular as a beautifully clear morning allowed strong sunlight penetrate the chamber. Added: March 22nd, 2008.

Solstice Webcast homepage: For three months, our home page was dominated by images from the Winter Solstice webcast at Newgrange on December 21st and 22nd 2007. Added: March 16th, 2008.

Book passages: Read some passages from Island of the Setting Sun. The book is now all but sold out, and we're working on a revised and expanded second edition, to be released hopefully in June. Added: March 2008.

As Above, So Below: Mythical Ireland's Anthony Murphy and Richard Moore, also authors of Island of the Setting Sun, featured in a new documentary shown on Dutch TV called 'As Above, So Below', which looks at ancient cultures around the world and how they studied the sky. Added: February 3rd, 2008.

West of Ireland journey: Some of the most beautiful scenery in Ireland, and indeed the world, is to be found in Connemara. We captured some of that scenery from a moving car from this special little video. Added: January 24th, 2008.

Mythical Ireland tours: Now you can experience the myth and magic of the ancient Irish landscape in a unique way by taking part in our new tours.
